The Time Baron

Game made as a part of Brackeys Game Jam 2020.2 by Stfoorca and walru5. Some of art made by Teku.

Please read a mechanics and controls section below description to not hurt yourself!

In the game you impersonate Time Baron. Your task is simple - steal the documents safely stored in safe bank. You can do it in different ways - get the pistol and start killing all adversaries that stand in your way or feel like a time ninja and do it stealthily, rewinding in crucial situations to avoid being detected. Based on your performance you are graded on the end - there are even some tips to do better in next run!

Quick explanation of mechanics:

If you are stuck and don't really know what to do, try talking to NPC's around! They might give you some hint what to do.

If you see doors on the inner wall of the room, then there's invisible entrance to them just on the outside  (just like normal, real doors work). on same coordinates (well, with y offset).

Your actions have impact on the future. Not only in the sense of progressing the game, but also dialogs. Simply talk to guy on wheelchair before, ekhm, making some distraction and then after. Feel free to find more (if there are...?).

Rewind works on the 10 seconds of last moves registered.

Tooltips appear when you're near objects that are crucial to progress game in the way we intended. Though you can still talk to other NPC's and check how are they doing. Maybe you will find something cool?

If you can't stand our game, why leave? Just click G when holding item to vent your anger and feast your eyes on magnificent drop mechanic.


If you are stuck in dialog, I should mention that NPC's talks in normal rectangles and player talks in rectangles with little arrow on the left (it's choose-an-option dialog type). Well, there's also avatar to recognize who talks.

If you are stuck in any other situation, please write and we will try to help as much as we can. There might be some bugs we have not encountered during playtests.


CONTROLS:

WASD to move

E to interact (doors, items on ground, crucial items to progress the game - such as lockers in changing room)

F to talk

G to throw active item

SPACE to rewind (only living things are rewinded, stolen items and opened doors stay the same)

ESCAPE to pause


ABOUT:

It was our first game jam we participated ever. We were struggling, coding till late, making art countless hours (since we aren't artists, just honest programmers), but in the end we had so much fun and gained a lot of experience working in a very small team.

Since we've made more of a game engine to create games inside unity, instead of a simple game, the level design is quite lacking and sometimes inadequate to the main setting of "bank heist". Although with the code power we have now, you could do much more sophisticated levels just by dragging components.
